Axaya moved to Las Vegas in the mid 90's. Initially, he started volunteering at KUNV as an alternate for KT on the world music program CQDX. In 1996, he had an opportunity to host his own program, Mezcla. The original Mezcla program aired from 1996 to 2001 and it featured a mix of world music with an emphasis on non-mainstream Latin music. Axaya returned with Mezcla in 2007 and continued until mid 2010 with experimental and global sounds, and a dash of spoken word. Mezcla is back once again with a kaleidoscope of sounds that cross genres and borders.

Axaya devotes part of his time to public education.
